Last Friday Terrelle Pryor Sr. had Cleveland buzzing. “Can you imagine having Gordon and Pryor on the outside?” they said (I said a year ago). Which brings us to the curious case of Josh Gordon…
For those unfamiliar here is a quick rehash – In 2012 he put up solid numbers despite having Colt McCoy, Seneca Wallace, Brandon Weeden, and Thad Lewis behind center. 2013 was a Pro Bowl season catching passes primarily from Brandon Weeden, and Jason Fucking Campbell – miracles happen every day. The first 10 games of 2014 were lost to suspension for marijuana use. December 21st, 2014 was the last time we saw Josh on the field. He caught four passes for 45 yards in a losing effort against the Carolina Panthers. Following the Carolina game he missed the final game of the 2014 season due to a team suspension for hanging out with his teammates/friends – an egregious violation of team rules. 2015 was lost as after receiving a year-long suspension when he tested positive for fun and unfortunately also marijuana. He applied for reinstatement in early 2016 but was denied after failing another drug test… Fair to say that Josh Gordon, Johnny Hopkins, and Sloan Kettering were blazing that shit up every day. This is about the time that many wondered if they would ever see Gordon in the NFL again and his approval ratings hit an all-time low.
However, as you can see from the chart above, Gordon’s stock is slowly on the rise and if I have learned one thing in my 25 years of life it’s that August in Cleveland is always a buyers’ market.
The buzz around Gordon is starting to get loud – just like that dank weed he smokes. Elite receiver Terrelle Pryor was quoted saying “I really can’t wait to get out there with him… it’s going to be awesome.”
Pro Instagrammer/Part-time Quarterback Robert Griffin said “You’re going to love him… Almost as much as I love all my followers, thx guyz!”
Perhaps the strongest endorsement came from personal friend and Future NFL Quarterback John Manziel who took to social media to show his support. “You my brother FOR LIFE. JUST WAIT ON THIS COMEBACK!!!! #CaboWabo.”
Cabo Wabo indeed Johnny, because even though the Browns will most likely be watching the playoffs from Cabo (if anyone can secure me an invite, I’d appreciate it), Gordon could land himself a trip to
Hawaii Orlando for his second Pro Bowl if he returns to form. I am actually legitimately excited to watch him and Terrelle Pryor this year. Add Corey Coleman and Andrew Hawkins on the inside and maybe the Browns have a legit passing attack. Or maybe it’s August in Cleveland and I’m delusional. I guess only time will tell, now pass me the blunt Josh.
